Finding the Obama Family Dog

In Recommendations on November 17, 2008 at 12:53 am

The whole animal community has been abuzz since President Elect, Barack Obama, announced during his acceptance speach that he would be getting a dog for his daughters before moving into the White House. Obama further explained that due to his daughter’s allergies he would require a “hypoallergenic” dog.

PetAmore.com has created a poll on their home page asking their readers which hypoallergenic dog breed they would like to see in the White House. You can vote on the poll at: www.petamore.com. The poll is in the right hand side of the page, about half way down.

PetAmore will be providing the poll results to the Obama Administration, accompanied by a list of shelters and rescues that have the hypoallergenic dogs on hand.

Even we found this hard to believe – until we saw the video.

Apparently, a rancher in Texas has taught a wild bobcat that she’s been keeping as a pet to use the bathroom. See the amazing video at: Wild Bobcat Uses Toilet

Man Saves Dog From a Shark Attack!

This brings up some very interesting questions. What would you do for your dog? Would you save your dog from a burning building? Would you jump in the water to rescue your dog from a Shark?

Casting for Families in Tri-State

In Dog Adoption on October 4, 2008 at 4:52 am

Major Cable Network Casting Pet Adoption & Makeover show!

Are you thinking about adopting an adorable dog from an animal shelter?

Have you always dreamed of giving a safe, warm home to a pooch in need of some tender loving care?

What if you could find the perfect dog at a shelter and then have him trained just for YOU and your family by some of the nation’s top dog specialists?

Sharp Entertainment is casting for an ambitious new television series that pairs abandoned shelter dogs with deserving families.  Guided by the expertise of some of the best canine trainers, vets, and groomers in the country, these once unloved shelter dogs will be transformed into sweet & playful pets, then placed with loving families who have been carefully selected for each dog.  And not only will the pooches undergo an amazing transformation – so will the families and their homes with a special doggie make-over that insures the home and family are ready to welcome their new canine member.

We are looking for charismatic, enthusiastic and energetic families – step families, singles and couples - who have a unique, sentimental, or powerful emotional reason to want to bring a dog into their lives.  But above all else, we are looking for caring people who have a lot of love to give and are truly serious about giving a shelter or rescued dog a “forever” home.

If you think you are the perfect candidate for this production, email a brief description of why you should be chosen along with a photo and contact information to

Judging a Dog Show

In Events on September 22, 2008 at 3:24 am

PetAmore.com was invited to judge the Puttin’ on the Dog Best Costume Contest held by Adopt-A-Dog in Connecticut today.  The charity event was held at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park in Greenwich, CT. We had never been to the park before. It was on the water, and quite lovely.

The event itself was well organized, and very well staffed. We were amazed at how many people came out to partake in the festivities of the day. There were clowns, and a moon bounce for the children. Green spaces for the dogs to play in. Vendor booths, and at least 4 judging rings where multiple competitions were taking place. There was also tons of food and sweets.

We were particularly impressed by the demonstration put on by the local PD K-9 division. The German Shepherd they brought along to do exercise training with was quite good, and extremely obedient.

We met lots of nice people, and saw tons of amazing dogs. The most fun we had though was judging the Dog Costume contest. Everyone went all-out, and I wish I could have given a prize to every participant. Unfortunately, we were given the dubious task of selecting First through Sixth Place. A quick run-down:

6. Was a young girl dressed as Sarah Palin, and her large dog dressed up as a Moose

5. Was a Shih-Tzu dressed as Betsy Ross

4. Was a young girl dressed as Wilma with a home-made Dino costume for her dog

3. Was a dog dressed in a hula costume with a bra

2. Was a dog dressed as a Cheerleader

1. Was a young girl dressed as Christine from Phantom of the Opera, and her dog dressed as the Phantom

Like I said, it was very hard to chose, but, I think we made the right choices.
